Bernard Lewinsky’s parents, Susi and George Lewinsky were German Jews who left Germany in the 1920s to settle on the island of El Salvador. His mother was born in Hamburg. Both of them engaged in the arts and his mother was a landscape painter, and George was a violinist. Lewinsky was born in San Salvador. In his early years, Lewinsky was primarily interested in photography. Still, when his family relocated to the United States in 1957 when Lewinsky was 14 years old, his interests began to diverge to medicine.

Lewinsky is a radiation oncologist board-certified and is one of the top 15 percent of breast cancer research in terms of volume of publications, according to Vitals.com. Lewinsky is the director and the owner of West Hills Radiation Therapy Center. Bernard Lewinsky is a fellow of the American College of Radiology and is on the Medical Advisory Board of The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura, a cancer-related organization.
Lewinsky has researched non-surgical cancer treatments, which seek to decrease the amount of treatments patients receive. He also has partnered with a veterinarian oncologist to aid in treating animals suffering from cancer. Lewinsky has published numerous medical studies collaborating with other researchers that concentrate specifically on breast cancer.
Lewinsky has also featured in several textbooks. His first position in oncology was as a resident in Mount Zion Hospital in San Francisco, California. Lewinsky is also a skilled photographer.
