Hope Sandoval teamed up with the band Opal in the late 1980s with David Roback and long-time Roback collaborator Kendra Smith. After Smith’s sudden departure from the UK tour, Hope took the lead, and at the end of the tour, Reebok & Sandoval began writing together and formed the alternative rock band Mazzy Star.
The first Funny Star album was released in 1990, “She Hangs Brightly.” The band, then released in October 1993, had spectacular breakthrough success. “Fade into You” its second album, “So Tonight That I Might See,” was recorded a year before its success.
American Beautiful Singer and Songwriter Hope Sandoval formed The Warm Inventions Group in 2000 and released his first solo album, Bavarian Fruit Bread, a year later. Featuring two covers, Jesus and Mary Chain’s “Drop” and “Butterfly Mornings” from the 1970 movie “The Ballad of Cable Hogue.”
In 2009 they released their second album, “Through the Devil Softly.” Hope and his group, Mazzy Star, collaborated to release the song “Common Burn” in October 2011. This was followed by an album of more songs, including “Seasons of Your Day,” “Isn’t It True,” and “Let Me Get There.”
